I must admit… I am a tinfoil hat type of person, and when it comes to my opinion of Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos for music, this topic is no exception.
This push for Atmos as a standard format in the music industry is clearly about making money for a select few greedy companies. It’s all hype and it puts money into the bank accounts of greedy people and greedy corporations who profit from making the rules of the game and who specialize in sucking you dry and selling you shit you don’t truly understand or need at all.
The idea that Atmos is “cutting-edge tech”, or “the next big thing for music”, is deception and it’s ridiculous. There is a major push for artists, producers, audio engineers, labels, and distributors to submit their music to streaming platforms strictly in Atmos format.
I encourage all artists, producers, audio engineers, independent record labels as well as the end consumer to question this new standard format and remain open-minded to the idea that it’s nothing but hype and that it’s simply bullshit for music.
Just like COVID-19, the elite powers pushed you to do as you were told, they pushed you to get tested, pushed you to wear masks, and pushed you to get vaccinated. I called bullshit on COVID at the very beginning and now I call bullshit on Dolby Atmos for music. I think it’s a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist to make a select few assholes very rich.
Below are some interesting videos on this topic if you want to hear some thoughts on Atmos from other audio engineers who feel the same way as me.
